Bearings and bushings for fitness equipment
Worn bearings and bushings can cause play, noise or uneven movement in fitness equipment. Our range includes bushings, linear bearings, needle bearings and pivot bearings for specific fitness machines. Always check the brand, model, part number and dimensions before ordering.
What do bearings do in fitness equipment?
Bearings support rotating or moving components and help reduce friction. They can be found around shafts, pivot points, guide rods and other moving joints, for example. The type used depends on the direction of movement, load and construction of the fitness machine.
What is the difference between a bearing and a bushing?
A bearing generally contains moving elements that support rotational or linear movement. A bushing, also called a plain bearing, is usually a simpler cylindrical component in which a shaft or pin moves. Bushings help guide movement and can reduce play, direct metal contact and wear.
Different types of bearings and bushings
Fitness equipment uses various designs. A linear bearing guides straight movement along a guide rod, while a needle bearing may be suitable for a compact rotating joint. Spherical bearings and rod-end bearings can allow movement at different angles. Plastic or brass bushings are often used at pivot points and adjustable joints.
How can you recognise a potentially worn bearing?
Possible signs include excessive play, scraping or clicking noises, a component that moves stiffly or movement that is no longer even. However, these symptoms may also be caused by loose fixings, shaft wear, insufficient lubrication or another fault. Check exactly where the problem occurs first.
How do you find the right replacement bearing?
Where possible, search using the exact part number from your machine’s parts list. Also check the brand, full model number and, where relevant, production series or serial number range. Comparing only the inside diameter, outside diameter and width is not always enough: parts that look identical may differ in material, fit or load capacity.
Replacing a bearing or bushing safely
Switch electrical equipment off and unplug it from the mains before removing components. On strength equipment, make sure cables, weight stacks and moving parts are not under mechanical tension or load. If replacement requires special tools or further dismantling, have the repair carried out by someone with sufficient technical experience.
