Speciality barbells for strength training
Speciality barbells are designed for particular exercises and training goals. Their shaped shafts or multiple handles offer alternative grip positions and movement patterns. The right design depends on your exercises, technique and personal preference.
Our range includes EZ-curl bars, triceps bars, trap bars (hex bars), Swiss bars and safety squat bars. Many models accept Olympic plates with 50 mm holes. Check each bar’s loading diameter and capacity, and assess rack or bench compatibility separately: a 50 mm sleeve does not guarantee rack fit.
Why choose a speciality barbell?
A different shape or grip can change how an exercise feels and how you position your body. Some lifters find particular designs more comfortable than a straight bar. This does not automatically mean you can lift more weight or avoid joint strain. Start with a manageable load and choose a bar suited to the movement.
EZ-curl bars and triceps bars
EZ-curl bars have angled sections that offer a different wrist position during curls and triceps extensions. Some users prefer this grip to a straight bar. Triceps bars usually have parallel handles for a neutral grip and can be used for suitable triceps exercises and hammer curls. Check the grip spacing, bar weight and plate compatibility.
Trap bars and hex bars
A trap bar lets you stand within the frame and hold the handles at your sides. This changes the position of the load and the lifting movement compared with a straight-bar deadlift. It does not automatically reduce strain on the lower back. Depending on the model, trap bars can be used for deadlifts, shrugs and loaded carries. Check handle height and available clearance.
Swiss bars and multi-grip bars
Swiss bars offer several neutral or angled grip positions, depending on the design. They allow variation in grip width for exercises such as bench presses and rows and may feel more comfortable for some users. Check that the frame clears your body and that the bar rests securely on the intended rack supports.
For home gyms and professional training spaces
Speciality bars add exercise options in home and professional gyms. Safety squat bars, for example, combine a shaped bar with padding and forward handles for a different squat setup. Compare the intended use, dimensions and rated capacity of each model. Use matching plates and collars, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for loading, rack use and storage.
