Strongman equipment for strength and conditioning

Strongman training combines strength, grip, stability and explosive movements. Explore equipment such as farmers walk handles, strongman logs and training sleds for demanding exercises that involve several muscle groups at once.

This style of training is used by strength athletes and other sportspeople to work on strength, conditioning and coordination. Choose equipment and loads that suit your experience, training goals and available space.

What is strongman training?

Strongman training centres on lifting, carrying, pressing, pushing and pulling with equipment that differs from conventional barbells and machines. Farmers walk handles, log bars and sleds each provide a different challenge. Load, distance, pace and exercise selection determine the demands of a session.

Farmers walks for grip and whole-body strength

In a farmers walk, you lift a loaded handle in each hand and carry them over a chosen distance. Your grip and forearms hold the load while your shoulders, trunk and legs help you stay upright and move. Select a weight that allows controlled steps and use a clear route with enough room to pick up and set down the handles.

Strongman logs for cleans and presses

A strongman log is a large cylindrical bar with neutral-grip handles. It is commonly used for log cleans and overhead presses; other exercises depend on the design. Its diameter and handle position make it feel different from a conventional barbell. Check the empty weight, dimensions and loading capacity when choosing.

Sled training for strength and conditioning

A training sled can be used for pushing or pulling, depending on its handles and attachment points. Resistance depends on the load and the friction between the sled and the surface. Adjust distance and pace to focus on strength or conditioning, and check that the sled is suitable for your training floor.

For home gyms and professional training spaces

Farmers walk sets, log bars and sleds can complement training in home gyms, strength facilities and sports performance centres. Allow enough space for carries, overhead movements and sled runs. Check load limits, plate compatibility where relevant and whether the equipment is rated for the intended frequency of use.
